The planned new building in Moosach, a borough in the Northwest of Munich, houses two more creches: The Haus für Kinder (HfK) and the Kindertageszentrum (KITZ). Both institutions work independently from each other. Consequently, each has its own entrance. The KITZ accommodates a total of 115 children with a maximum age of 12 years divided into six pre-school age groups and one group for school-age children. The HfK has space for a further 111 children in six groups with a maximum age of six years.

The entrances of both institutions are clearly defined and put centre stage. The pleated roof, projections and recesses in the facade, and a seemingly arbitrary distribution of windows create unconventional interior situations and interpret the design theme in a playful way. Apart from the group and multi-functional rooms, the green courtyard with a surrounding “play corridor” forms a central spatial element. It connects both institutions visually and is a meeting point for all children. A small number of targeted coloured surfaces in the interior and on the facade create a sense of identity.
