The extension of the ESO headquarters respects both the green belt to the South of the research campus and the extrovert nature of the existing main building. In line with the latter’s design language, the new building is based on circular segments, housing offices, seminar rooms, a lecture hall and a conference room, and it seems to float above the landscape without pillars. The circular, two-storey technical building with its large assembly hall is immediately adjacent.
