ESO, the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere, operates the so-called Very Large Telescope in the Atacama desert at an altitude of 2.600 m above sea level. The scientists and technicians working under these extraordinary conditions need accommodation allowing them to regenerate between their stressful shifts and serving as an “oasis” with all the necessary amenities.
